PSTG tropical hat by Dudek [ENG
I’m like a woman. I like clothes, boots, hats and other accessories.
Just a week ago the PSTacticalGear company introduced its latest tropical hat, and it has been feasting my eyes since I started writing this text.
The hat resembles the classic “boonie” and there is nothing to argue about in the lack of innovation. It’s hard to figure out something absolutely new. I do not know what camouflage is currently in stock at PSTG, but at the beginning they had four camos available: original AOR1, Norwegian woodland M/98 camouflage, olive and Wz93 Pantera.
I decided to purchase M/98. Pantera is far from my taste, olive was a so-so choice, and AOR1 is far too bright in the forest. Anyway, I’ve never had clothes in M/98, and this fact influenced my choice.
The manufacturer does not specify what material is the M/98 made from but certainly it’s not ripstop. Wz93, AOR1 and are made of ripstop, olive is a twill.
The whole, except the brim, is made of one layer of material. Is it good? We’ll see.
However, the material used is not as crappy as e.g. Miltec. It is a comfortable and solid material to be used it in the woods, on a garden plot or in the city.
In comparison with classic boonie, brim is narrower and is only 50mm. I am personally in favor of narrower brims as they provide full protection from the sun while not limiting the field of view.
A single tape for attaching camouflage is made of the same material as the hat. The tape has a width of 20mm and is pierced at 50mm.
Let’s look at the coolest feature of this hat. Well, classic vents have been replaced by large ventilators measuring 45x100mm. Excellent idea for all those who suffer from excessive sweating.
This is the first hat that gives me greater comfort than any other in my modest collection of five pieces: D
The hat fits all heads. The diameter is adjusted by bands running around the head. On the back we have a fixed timer that keeps the diameter set in place. The manufacturer ensures that the hat fits on a genetically modified watermelon as mine, that is from 63cm down.
The hat has velcro stitched in two segments. One long, 30x120mm, at the back for a nametape, and a smaller one, 30x30mm for a reflective element / IR. But as you can see in the picture, it fits something bigger too: D
PSTG did not forget to put some thermoactive sweatband in the front. Personally I would prefer the thermoactive fabric was used in the whole top part of the hat. I’m bald, I sweat a lot so for me this solution would be much more attractive.
It is worth mentioning that the hat does not have a chin strap.
